Questions
What is the difference between seeing a psychotherapist, psychologist and psychiatrist?
Therapists or psychotherapists have a master’s degree in social work or counselling.
Psychologists provide counseling services including psychological testing for schools, courts, and other entities.
Psychiatrists tend provided limited therapy/counseling services and are typically available for medication management.
If your therapist feels that you may need medication, they will provide you with a referral to doctors that they may recommend.
What can I expect in Therapy & How does it help?
Therapists provide a safe and supportive environment to talk about presenting concerns that you want to explore. Therapists can assist with problem-solving and coping strategies for a wide range of concerns.
Therapists are objective and can provide a different or fresh perspective on a problem that you have been struggling with.
The benefits of therapy depend on your commitment and level of readiness. Some benefits can include improving self-esteem; communication skills; learning new coping strategies; attaining a better understanding of yourself and others; changing old patterns and developing new ones.
